Core 2 Duo is Core 2 Duo. Pentium D differs and Pentium 4 differs. name given to each. Thought, abbreviations like C2D, PD and P4 are also common.

They're both have two cores, but you have to realize that Pentium D's are based on a different architecture when compared to a Core 2 Duo. They're two different processors with the Intel Core 2 Duo being the best.

Let me answer thiso ne more detailed. There' the clock (Ex: 3GHZ) and clocks per cycles. Clocks per cycles, I dunno what it means, but more is better. The Core 2 Duo has more.

Pentium D:
FSB = 533 or 800
Clock ratio 2.8-3.4+
Clock per cycles = (Randomly generated number) 5

Core 2 Duo
FSB = 1066
Clock ratio = 1.8-2.4ish
Clock per cycles = (Randomly generated number) 15-25.

No, but it could be 667 or 800. If you put it too low, say DDRII 533, it will be bottlenecking the CPU.
