but IMO the 955 is a better deal.
Not really if he is using it for encoding and editing. The time you save adds up to money IMO. Time = money. The 955 is a great chip but for gaming. The I7 Pwns it in Multithreaded applications. And It also has a memory controller for triple channel Memory. The price difference is so small now that it really doesn't matter either way. If you are only gaming that its a good choice to go for the 955 but buying a computer isn't always about what is the cheapest system its all about what you are doing with it.
