What are the cables called so that that I can connect laptop to HDTV?

Hi i want to connect my Laptop to my SONY Bravia HDTV, because I want to watch HD movies (that are on my laptop) on my Sony HDTV, what cables do I need? what are they called? how much do they cost? also do I need different cables if I don't want to watch things in HD? what are those called?

What notebook computer do you have? What video outputs does it have?

Your laptop probably has an S-video cable, and possibly an HDMI cable.

^ S-Video isn't high definition.

You most likely have a VGA output. Most notebooks do. Just buy a separate VGA cable and connect it to your television. Like Tommy Boy said, you also could use your HDMI output if you have one.

Whichever way you do it though you will need a separate audio cable as well....just an FYI.

Most HDMI outputs on notebooks don't have audio capabilities.

Lenovo ThinkPad X200, and Dell Vostro 1400 but I mostly care about the Lenovo cause the Vostro is the family laptop, so the Lenovo is more important that im able to hook it up to the TV
