Exclamation what is 8+1 phase power design?

Ok whats with this board?: Asus 750a Sli

It claims to have 8+1 phase (click manufactuer product page) but i only see a 4 pin cpu power connecter so how does it have a 8+1 phase? Also what is these phases 4+1, 8+1, 8+2 and does it help in the performance of the motherboard? does it help for overclocking?

I think it has to do with voltage regulation (VRM's?). Maybe someone else can chime in.

8 Phases for the CPU, 1 phase for RAM and north bridge.
