Id rather just get 2 500Gb drives, works out cheaper and its the same amount of storage. The only advantage i can see in having 1 Tb drive is, if you are short of space in your case.

You could always make your own external drive. It's not hard.

Yeah i did that a while back and i was suprized at how much i could save by making my own

I think it has been said before but also if one drive fails you loose less data

well since you mentioned external hdds there has been 1TB and 2TB externals for quite a long time already. (don't know if it's just 1 hdd or 2 (or more) in raid just stuck together and put in the same casing)

Ive seen the buffalo terrastation i think the 1TB model is two 500GB's in raid
