weird failures

my dad's friend's PC is having some weird failures. Its easily the best computer ive ever used myself, but recently its died.

8GB DDR2, 3.3GHz CPU, 450W PSU, i have no idea about the GPU.

but anyway, after attempting to install Win7, it got to finalization then shut itself down. upon reboot, it doesnt even register that anything's been installed. he tried twice, now it gets Win7 safe mode.

any ideas? it boots in safe mode no problem, but it wont boot regularly.

sounds like it could be a driver issue, but that's really weird with win7, I love win7 because you can swap out motherboard after motherboard, go from chipset to chipset and it automatically loads the drivers, I've personally gone from 975X to P35 to X48 with no problem...
