Default Web Browser Media Player Crash

Everytime I try to play a video file direct from the internet using Media Player 10 my web browser (IE or Firefox) crashes, or Media player says "Buffering" for a very long time and does nothing. So basically whenever I try to play a media file from the internet it won't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
