It said on Microsoft's site that it was only from vista.

I hear they have a deal going on ow where if yo buy vista, you get a free W7 upgrade.
I might look into that, as I have xp.

there was a thread on here last night and a few guys said it may work for xp

do i have to have vista installed for the upgrade to work or can i just have the key because i have the key to my vista home premium 64 bit that i got with my hp a long time ago, would just a key work or ?

^ No, I tried that on one of mine, upgrading from 95 to xp (yeah i know...) and you havve to have the OS installed, unless Microsoft has changed it, but that would be stupid on their part because all some people would do is use a keygen, and share product keys.

this is really stupid man, kinda dont want to pay $200 because hp is stupid and only makes the vista os they distribute work on their hardware.

Well you can purchase Vista from newegg right now and get a free upgrade to Windows 7. Its only 109.99 for Vista and the Upgrade.
