VUNDO BUG cant get rid of it

I have a windows xp pro pc, that has the vundo trojan. It came up with a few entries most prominently vundo.generic.

I found a couple tools that remove the vundo bug, but none of them really work, because when I reboot mcafee pops up again.

These are the steps I use to remove the bug.

1) Turn system restore off
2) Update mcafee
3) Update spybot search and destroy
4) Hijack This
5) All the vundo removal tools
6) Stinger tool

Restart in safe mode, and run all scanners. The scanners claim they remove the bug or say there arnt any.

What else can I do besides format?

have you tried to manually delete the infected files in safe mode?

Try the trial version of NOD32 see what that comes up with. If you still are having problems, scan your hard drive on another computer. If it comes up clean, you can delete your infected files from your hard drive while on the other computer.

Yup, seems like there is always a new file.

Yeah I have tried slaving the drive to another drive and running the scans on that drive. It says that its clean. I boot the drive up and bam a new detection. I have tried quarantining the files when deletion fails, but most of the time I just go ahead and delete the file. When deletion fails quarantine, and clean usually fail too!
