I agree.

A faster dual core will make much better use of the graphics card.

Do you wanna suggest him a CPU that's actually compatible with his system?

oh my bad u guys, all i read was X2 3800+ i didn't notice the socket 939, this one will make a big difference in gaming

urs is a single core, heres dual core for about the same price of that 8800, and u'll notice a huge difference

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103581

u'll bottleneck with a single core proc and a 8800GTS

AMD Opteron Dualcore 180 (revE6)
AMD Opteron Dualcore 185 (revE6)

Athlon 64 FX-57 (rev.E4)
Athlon 64 FX-60 (rev.E6)

Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4600+ revE4
Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4600+ revE6
Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4800+ revE6

Any one of these CPU's would improve your system performance. I have a similar board to you and I would go for the Opteron 185 or the 64 X2 4800+. The FX 60 would be the 'business' but it's very expensive if you can find a new one. The Opteron 185 is similar but with a locked multiplier.

[QUOTE]
No, it would not be a bottleneck, especially if you can get the clock speeds up a bit. Modern games are much more GPU bound and like Nvidia says, soon, we won't even need a CPU. The 8800GTS at that price is a very good buy, so I'd say get that, but check HD 3850 prices first, as it performs as well as the G80 GTS but is more energy efficient (55nm) and much more overclockable.

EDIT: I'd go for this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814241068

true. the next upgrade id do is maybe a new mobo and a 5000+ black. (might have to save for a little while longer) and then down the road maybe some DDR2 RAM

Oh yes, I just noticed he has two 7800GTs and not one. It's not worth the upgrade.
