Default Vista allocating RAM For my video card?!?!?

I Went into DXDIAG To check my video card after i installed it (I must say i am very happy with it! ) and it said it had 1.2 GB Video RAM,The Card had 512 onboard,where is the other 688mb Coming from?

Mine shows 793, its 64mb 6100 go on my laptop, i guess vista is just allocating extra ram to it from the main memory. Doesnt seem to effect performance though, i mean i still seem to have 1.9gb of ram available to windows.

Here's a good read about how Vista allocates some of the address space (not the physical RAM) to the PCI bus, the video adapter memory address space, and other resources.

that would explain why it says i have 1278 MB of VRAM and not 512 MB. Nice. I feel special now, I don't know why....

Ya I kinda wondered that myself. It shows my 8800GTS has 2075MB memory lol.

some programs say my card has 512mb guess it just must be a glitch in some detection programs
