No need for over 2 GB for what you are using vista with, anyway if you went to 4GB you would need the 64bit Vista to use it all, the 32Bit Vista only access around 3.25Gb tops. And that Version of vista I know has some problems.

I'm still kinda 50/50 on Vista. I like it and the new features are nice, but I don't like the fact that it boots up slow and seems a little buggy. I think they rushed Vista out anyways and tried to shove it down our throats. If I had a choice I would stick with vista since it has a lot of new features and overall is smoother running than XP, it's just a bit slower. With the right tweaking you'll be able to get vista running faster and customized to your liking. I'd say get vista, just have some patience with it

Desktop: Dell Dimension E510, 2.5GB RAM, Intel P4 3.0GHZ, 250GB HDD, Windows Vista Premium. Might not be the best, but the old girl is still running good.

Have you considered dual booting? that way you'll have XP "the way you like it" and can just reboot into Vista when you feel the urge to sample it again
