videos show up as audio

ok...i built a new computer not to long ago and have run into a problem. When i play video files with windows media player it will just play the audio and not the video. I have downloaded different video players such as the ATI player, winamp, and itunes...all of which do the same thing. I can hear it but i dont see it. BUT in some cases really small videos can be seen...but not all of them. Also if my icons are set to thumbnails, i can see the beginning of the video in the picture. I think im just missing something, maybe a program? Your help would be much appreciated THANKS!

You may need to download the DivX and xvid codec depending on the type of video.......do a google search
