Default Videocard upgrade.

hey everybody. Hope everybodys having a great Xmas.

Ok so I am wounder what would be an upgrade from my stock videocard that came in my 2-3years old sony vaio desktop.

I been playing CS:S and i can play it on high*, no problem. but I want to beable to play F.E.A.R on high. As I am more of a Gamer but a computer noob,'if that makes sense', is that I dont even know what to look for, or what is even better then mine. So I asking for help as I got a limit of aout $200 for this upgrade, and I dont even know where to start hah, been searching, and geting all confused on Hz, pipelines.. so its really up to anyone of you guys where i should start looking.

o Everything else about my system is in my sig. my friend told me its all good, its just my videocard. is he right? would i really need to upgrade anything else???....
Thanks,
Khoeun

UPgrade to this if you want to:

SAPPHIRE 100131L Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102615

It's close to $200, kind of, but it's a good card for the price.

YOur welcome. It's a pretty nice one for using an AGP slot on your motherboard. You should have no problems playing any of your games at all with this baby.

You should be able to using the ATi software. It's got multiple ports on the back:

I'm not use to using ATi cards because I've always used Nvidia graphic cards my whole life. I know by going into display properties (right click on dekstop and select properties), there are settings you can play with for dual monitor setup.

Wait for more opinions though. I always like recieving reviews before buying anything. That way, you can see from our ideas if this is really the one for you.

It's nice too because not all monitors support the new DVI interface yet (the white graphics port you see in that picture). It comes with a DVI-VGA adapter for the traditional monitor hookups.

Looks like you got a good amount of RAM and a nice processor to go with it. Everything should be fine and dandy once the video card gets upgraded. That's one of the main bottlenecks in a good system.

This is probably the last upgrade you can do. After that, you will need an overhaul to get new technology integrated in there. New motherboard with PCI-express support, better CPU, dual channel memory, perhaps even dual core processors, high performance X-Fi sound card, etc.

Yep, you so read my mind, I plan this upgrade and work with it for a year or so, and build a new one and give this to my younger brother to do his hw and such on.
Thanksalot

No problem. If you need suggestions on what components to get for a new build, just post it in this forum and we will all pitch in for plenty of suggestions. Today is slow because of Christmas. We usualy get a lot of traffic in here at this time.

They're like the exact same card. Funny. One's retail and the other one is OEM meaning that it doesn't come with all the nice software and pretty packaging, that's it. Get the OEM one, it's cheaper. You don't need all that stuff from the retail side. Good thing you found that. Saved quite a few dollars there.

I don't know if the GTO2 comes in AGP version though, that's why I linked him to the regular GTO card. The 6800GS should be out by now. I have no clue what the hold up is.
