Default Video Converting

I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a program that i could download that would allow me to change AVI files into MPEG files. I keep downloading programs but they all seem to only convert a minute of video in the freeware version. I want a program for free that i can completely format videos with so i can put them on VCD. OH also when I convert them i dont want to see some stupid buble letter thingy saying the program makers name in the middle of my screen.
