Degaussing, simply put, will reverse any damage caused by letting a magnet get too close to your monitor. (but you must do this immediately after the magnet gets near it.)

I don't really understand how it works, but thats it's purpose.

Yeah, there's a degausse button on your monitor that will initiate it. On LCD monitors, there is no need to do that, hence no degauss button on most of our monitors now.

How to degausse? It's in the monitor settings menu. You'll have to play with the monitor buttons to find it.
