VGA to TV

I am currently using an Acer Extensa 5420 5687 laptop, when I first got it I had no problems using a vga cable to connect it to my TV, now for seemingly no reason when I hook it up to the TV I only get 3 available Resolution choices that are all 4:3 aspect ratio and not widescreen as was available to me before. I tried rolling back the graphics driver and still nothing. Any help is much apreciated.

I think 800 x 600 and 1024 X 768 and one other, I think only 2 of them even work at all. My laptop is set to 1280 X 768 and I believe this format was the one that was working on the TV originally.

Are you using any special settings when you're using your television's VGA input? You could have the picture set at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Try stretching out that standard resolution to fill the entire screen, and see if your television can then support 1280 x 768.
