VCR / DVD-R Combo Questions

A buddy of mine just got a new VCR / DVD-R combo for his birthday. He is wondering since the DVD-R's that you can buy state only 120 minutes does this mean that is all you will be able to get on the one DVD. I would think you would be able to get a lot more then just 2 hours of video on one DVD. But I could be wrong. If anyone has any information that would be great. I have a dvd recorder, it entirely depends on what quality setting you have it set to, on HQ (high quality) you can fit about 60mins on, on SP (standard play) you can, as you say, fit about 120 mins on, LP (long play) 180 mins, EP (extended play) 240 mins and SLP (super long play [the quality is awful]) 360 mins, I have mine set to LP
