Default Upgrading video card

My computer is an advent 3117/3118 and has a nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128MB) video card and am guessing this is AGP. The ram on the motherboard DDR as I see on the video cards it has DDR3 and DDR2 an so on.

Does the DDR of the ram have to match that of the video card?

Sorry for being an utter noob, I did try and do some reasearch.

Nope. Motherboard ram and video card ram are completely separate.
