Default upgrading to new computer

A very basic question from a computer novice. I need to upgrade my computer and will be buying a new system. Presently have XP and will be going to Windows7. What is the best and easiest way to transfer all my data and the programs to the new system?

Windows includes the ability to do this for you. On the new system just type "transfer" into the start menu and click on the option that shows up, and it'll step you through the process. This is the easiest way.

If you have a network, or can take the drive out of your old system and put it into the new system, you could just copy files over that way as well, but it's a little more involved.
