Upgrading..... need help on choices

Right now our family has an Asus A78 Deluxed MOBO with an AMD 2500+ 1.83 ghz with 1 GB of memory.

We play no games and do not use any high end programs other than DVD FAB.

I want to spend around 150.00 or so on a MOBO, chip and ram.

Can it be done and if so, what type of things should I look for.


I only want to upgrad becasue lately since my reformat, the PC seems sluggish.

Is that $? If so, you could get a CPU, mobo and RAM for that price. It wouldn't be top of the line but it would do the job.

Thanks for the links, that is exactly what I am looking for. I am kind of worried about our 350W Antec power supply. So people have told me my problems could be the power supply.

A few times a week when the PC has been on all day, it gets shut down and then about an hour later, it will not turn back on, we have to unplug it from the wall for about 10 minutes and it fired right up after that.

yea that is the PSU, it will do that because if the system doesnt get enough power, it will shut down and act sluggish.
