i have a nice PC. but now the little one got into videogaming and i dont want to spend a lot on upgrading my old PC or let him use mine.

its an eMachines with an ATI X200 motherboard:
2.93 Mhz 800FSB P4.w/ HT support
upgraded RAM 2GB DDR2 533.
nVidia GeForce 7800 instead of the on-board Radeon Express it came with.
2x80GB HDD
and a new 600w PSU

i was thinking of gettin a P4 extreme edition but i was wondering if that board could support a pentium D as well.

i've looked at many Pentium D processors and their form factor is "775pins-socket 775"
and the P4s dont specify the number of pins...just say Socket 775

so my question is, do they use the same socket? and are they compatible?

Thank You:)

I think so, just have to see if the FSB is fast enough for the D you get

if the information is incorrect when you POST/go into bios, just jump the cmos and see if it will post at the correct speeds.

well if USB doesn't work it's not the SP2 fix... SP2 fixes USB 1.1 to USB 2.0 and makes that work. if the USB doesn't work at all, you need to figure out if there's something in bios that enable/disables the USB controller or if there's a jumper on the motherboard that turns it on.

Just to let you know, Atomic Rooster has a nice EVGA 7800GT for sale. I think he wants something like $75 for it.
