Default updating firmware

could someone explain to me how you go about doing this?
i would like to update the firmware on my HDD
and maybe even flash my BIOS
which i have no idea on how to do either
so links or even a guide is greatly appreciated

What makes and models are both of them? It all varies.

If the manufacturer doesn't give you a windows utility, you must create a DOS boot drive and go from there.
Ask, and I'll give you instructions.

Not all seagate drives have upgradeable firmwares. Only drives that Seagate reconizes as shipped with bad firmware versions have updates on their site.

Also BIOS updates depend on if you have the FTW version of the motherboard.
