a unique way of using a 22" widescreen LCD
okay
i was wondering if it is possible to do something like this
have any vid card (for S&G lets say a GeForce 8800Ultra)
have it run 2 monitors
1st be a 22" Wide screen (1680x1050) in that mode
2nd be a 22" Wide screen BUT!
we turn it on its side
so that it now a 1050x1680!
that way its taller than wide
and it would be a lot easier to view web sites with the vertical screen
and one for gaming
any ideas on if this is possible
or how to accomplish this task?
thanks

I know for a fact you can do rotation with the nvidia drivers, not sure about ati but i'm sure they have it too.

Re: a unique way of using a 22" widescreen LCD
I think it is.
We have an o2 store here that uses a wide-screen LCD monitor mounted long ways to advertise the iPhone.
I see what your getting at and I think it's down to the software you have.

Yes you can. My monitor actually swivels vertically so you can do that :P
Just right click on your desktop --> Nvidia Control Panel --> Display --> Rotate Display

You can do it with ATI also. I have an ATI X700 Mobile and it has an icon on my taskbar that when I right click it has -> Rotations.

Re: a unique way of using a 22" widescreen LCD
both monitors can have different resolutions. You don't even need 2 gpu's, one can supply both monitors with different resolutions. For example right now I have my main monitor (22" lcd) at 1680x1050 and my second monitor (17" crt) at 1024x768.

I love it. I use the 22" for all of the regular stuff.. gaming, videos, internet etc. The 17" always has irc on it, sometimes a few msn conversations etc.
I won't be going back to using only 1 monitor unless I have to.

Re: a unique way of using a 22" widescreen LCD
Do note if you ever wanted to do two things at the same time, when it came to a full screen app like a game, it'd be impossibleto then talk to your mates on the second monitor, but you could see what was happening with them.
As soon as you tried to do anything on the second screen, your game on the left monitor would minimize.
