Default tv tunners

is there any tv tuners that will actually be the same or close to the same video quality that you can get from just a tv? i bought one from best buy and teh quality was horrible and the delay from my satellite to my pc was like 5 seconds while changing channels. the reason im asking is i would like to turn my pc into a media center eventually when i leave for college so i can just use my pc for everything instead of having both a tv and a pc monitor

Hauppauge is supposed to have the best TV tuners hands-down, in terms of quality and performance. Since I don't know a price range, I'll just let you look at all the ones newegg carries.

The Hauppauge PVR-150 is a good one for the price.

I believe that Nvidia discontinued their TV tuners though.

I don't think so. If I understand it correctly, it's dependent on the card and the distance between the card and the plug in the wall.
