Default Tv tuner?

I just bought a new lcd but if I want to play my xbox on it I need a tv tuner I know, but if I get a regular one will I be able to play in 480p? And if I get a 360, will I need a special HDTV tuner?

Yeah I know the stuff about premium and core. But halo 2 works on 360, so would it work on the monitor even though its not made for 1080 hd.
