Default trying to reinstall o/s...need help fast.

i spend a few long hours playing around with some stuff but i finally figured out. my second vista hard, i was still able to boot to, and play around with vistabootpro to edit some stuff. i was able to go into the gateway's recovery partition and reinstall xp. when it said click on 'restart', i did, then my computer restarted. it then went to the 'windows is setting up for the first time, bla bla bla.' after 30 littls periods/dots, the blue screen went away, then a little box said 'not enough memory', or something about a quote, then the computer quickly restarted. it went into xp, then it said something was wrong, and i was to run setup again. i've done this whole process twice now so whats this memory/quote box...
