Default trying to learn effect of amount of ram on performance

I'm trying to figure something out. How does performance change as you add more ram- from 1gb, to 1gb dual channel, to 2 gigs, to 2 gigs dual channel, to 3 gigs, and to 3 gigs dual channel. does anyone know where I can find info like this, or could anyone test that out? thanks.
