Trying to configure external CD-ROM drive.

I just received this ASUS notebook as a b-day gift and noticed it has no d drive. I figured I might be able to hook up an external USB CD-ROM but I don't think the notebook supports plug-and-play. Is there a way to do it, can I just create a new partition or something?
