Trouble with External Harddrive

I told my friend at work that I needed to get an external Harddrive, and he said he had a 60 gig one he'd give me. I don't even know the brand, all he gave me was the harddrive, but it says LaCie on it, so maybe that's it.

Anyway, I get it home, plug it in, and Windows recognizes something has been plugged into my USB, recognizes it as a mass storage device, but when I go to "My Computer" there's no new drive, no nothing.

Oh, if it helps...

He said he was using it with a Mac, and I might need to change it or format it for Windows or something, I just don't know how to do that, or if that's the problem.

Go into Control panel, Administrative tools, computer management, disk management, there you will see your hdd select it and format it from there, it will tell you how, it will be formatted to NTFS or FAT32.
