What exactly is triple channel ram and what are its requirements? I'm assuming all three chips have to be the same size, but are they required to be the same type (DDR2 vs DDR3), same speed, same manufacture, etc? Thanks in advance.

Triple channel RAM is when you have 3 sticks of the same type of RAM, the CPU is able to divide its RAM usage between the three of them, effectively tripling the speed. The size, speed and model doesn't have to be the same, but it helps a lot.
I believe only the core i7 supports it right now, but i may be wrong.

Yes, it's only DDR3 as well.
