Default toslink problems

hey everyone.
I have a question about audio. I have a logitech Z-5500 speaker set, and used to connect it to my computer through the onboard spdif out connector. However I just upgraded my mobo to a:
eVGA 122-CK-NF68-AR Socket T (LGA 775) NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX

I only realized now that this does not have a digital coax out, only an optical out. So today I went and bought a toslink cable which i was told should do the job, but it doesnt fit in my mobo. Whichever way i turn it, there is no way that i can get it to plug in. Did I buy the wrong cable? It was quite an expensive cable, about $50..

I dont mind returning the cable and going back to digital coax, is there maybe a relatively cheap soundcard out there that has a digital coax out?

Thanks in advance for the help.
