Throw away your graphics cards...

The first DirectX10 graphics cards were officially released today. This means that basically whatever's currently in your PC is now obsolete. The GeForce 8800GTS and GTX are on sale at a bunch of places now, but they're not cheap.

GTX - $700:
768MB DDR3 clocked at 1.8 GHz
575 MHz core clock

GTS - $500:
640MB DDR3 clocked at 1.6 GHz
500 MHz core clock

Both are capable of 16x full screen anti-aliasing!
It'll be interesting to see how much people can overclock these things. I'm guessing not much, probably more on the GTS though.

Anyone planning on buying one of these? Personally, I'm gonna wait for the ATI card to come out and see what they've got. Rumor has it that the core clock may be 1 GHz or higher!

P.S. - I was kidding when I said throw away your graphics cards. DirectX 10 won't become a standard for a good few more years.

I'll probably wait for a while, my 6800GT is still doing fine and I probably won't be upgrading to vista in a while.

good point yeah technology does change all the time but think how long before dx11 is gonna be the new standard theres no point ubgrading to dx10 comp cos ya always know dx11 is coming but still who knows what the future holds direct x may be stopped in favour of another standard

Um...It will be at least 5 years until DirectX11 is out and probably 8-10 until it is a standard. Microsoft won't be releasing another OS for at least that long.

Sorry, DirectX isn't going anywhere, pal. It's Microsoft's product. Do you know how much of the market share Windows has?

I agree with LambOfGod though, there's no such thing as futureproof. DX11 isn't coming out anytime soon, but the Radeon R600 is, and I'm sure the Geforce 9000 will be out soon.
