I will be building a new computer, but I am new to building computers. My budget is around $550(not including Monitor, OS, etc.). Just the CPU. I already know what hard drive, RAM, Case, and Processor I want. They add up to about $350, leaving me $200 for the Motherboard and video cards. I would choose those also, but I don't know anything about motherboards or video cards. I just need an Nvidia based motherboard that is socket 939 or can support AMD Athlon 64. I'll be using this computer for light gaming like Guild Wars and school stuff.

Thanks in advance.

it really depends on your budget and what you're using the computer for. and instead of a socket 939 i would suggest a socket AM2, it supports socket939 cpus and it has ddr2.

for that price get a 7800gs ($100) and maybe 1gb (2x512mb) Crucial ballistix ddr400 ($100)...and maybe a 50 dollar mobo...now that would be a great light gaming pc:D

Well, you have to make sure the stuff you want will match our recommended motherboards. Here's what I suggest for your budget:

BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 550 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

OCZ 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail

Does Socket AM2 really support Socket 939 CPUs? If that is so, then what's the point of AM2? I think you need AM2 compatible CPUs for Socket AM2 motherboards.

ummm AM2 doesnt support 939, thats why they changed the name.

oh.. i thought they did, must of misread it some where. and since you're just going to play guildwars, a 100 dollar vid card will suffice, i ran it OK with my fx5200.

its going to be hard to find a good motherboard and graphics card for $200 unless you can get one integrated.

well, if you already have a socket 939 processor and you don't feel like returning it, it isn't for you. it's basically AMDs new line of processors.
