The shift key does take a lot of abuse, especially if you're a rapid typer and avid gamer.

...Well the typing part wasn't wrong...

There are a few games for Apple computers, though. Think of an avid gamer of Unreal Tournament 2004. Yeah. The shift key is used all the time in that game.
