I started off with the idea of turning an old PC into an HTPC. Then I found my old PC doesn't function like it used to so I thought it would be a great project to build a new PC specifically for home theatre use. Mind you, hardware is not my expertise, I'm better at computer use than engineering. I found my price to be about $500 for the parts to build it myself. I've found new desktops like this one....http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...at0501001&type=product&id=1203815923563....to be cheaper and probably be more reliable than myself building one. I was hoping to keep costs lower than 500, but is this even going to be possible? What is the minimum I can put into a PC so I can use it as a DVR, DVD player and old system emulator on a SDTV without having really bad quality? Or should I just go ahead and buy a new PC? Any ideas?
