Default startup problems

Hello, im hoping someone can help me. Im having trouble starting up windows 2000. My problem:

Computer starts
Windows is loading
Prompts me for password
Click OK
Shows my desktop, which doesnt load anything but my background and then it says "saving your settings" and goes back to the login screen. This happens over and over, i cannot get a full startup.

It does the same thing if I do it in safe mode. Can someone please help me fix this?

Was there anything you installed or did before this happened?
