Hello I have been thinking about building a really good gaming pc and I wondered If it would be be better to go with a 256gb SSD for the os and a few games and a 3tb HDD for pictures and software or a 1tb SSD for just everything?

SSD + HDD

You're going to pay a ton of money for a 1TB SSD at current market price. The problem with that is you're throwing money away. SSD's don't have a reputably long life span, so you may even lose all your data. When comparing performance between an SSD and a HDD, pictures and songs don't necessarily suffer when accessed from a spinning disk.

The whole point is to have the performance boost of the SSD. So, get a 256GB SSD and run OS+Programs from there to get your performance boost and house all the pertinent "I would like to keep this ish for some time" data on the spinning disk.
