Hey Guys,

Just wondering if i was to get an SSD drive for 1 of our work SQL servers (when i say server it's a high end desktop acting as a server), would the speed be increased if i left the OS on the old SATA drive?

I would move the TempDB and any DBs i'd like to speed up but i'm wondering if the OS is still on the SATA will i get the benifits?

Long term we'd be looking to move the OS as well but i'd lke to know if there are any benifits in the mean time.

What are the specs of the computer? I know that SQL servers like a lot of RAM.

Also, what type of network are you running?

Although i appreciate that your questions will undoubtedly effect the performance of SQL Server i'd like to know the answer to the question regardless of the spec.

If the comp had a quad core xeon processor with 6Gb RAM (which it does) or if the comp had a C2D with 2Gb RAM the question remains the same.

Does adding the SSD drive into the machine and just storing the databases on it improve performance.
