spyware?....CiD ads?

lately I've been getting a lot of CiD ads for multiple things, from internet Explorer which I don't use and haven't used since re-installing Windows XP and starting over fres....I have Nod32 and run virus Scans, AVG and run spyware scans along with Spysweeper and they catch many things but still I get the CiD ads, I only use Firefox and its so annoying to have random IE windows opening while playing Counter-Strike...I had this problem once before I re-installed after installing Vista and not liking it, I don't remember what I did to get rid of it though...any ideas folks?

Have you gone into Windows Services and disabled Messenger?

how do i do this would I use msconfig.exe to turn it off?

Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Scroll down to Messenger, right click on it and select Properties. Under Startup type, select Disabled in the drop down menu. Under Service Status, click the Stop button. Click Apply, then OK.

yeah it was already disabled and stopped so that wasn't the problem
