I think that is true in most cases. Stuff like norton doesn't install if u don't remove other anti-virus programs 1st. But I think that this is just because norton want's to sell more of their products, and make sure that they stay as the most used anti-virus. (so that they can do marketing with the fact that they are the one with most users)
I wanted to try what happened if I installed AVG while I had AntiVir installed. The 2 programs didn't complain about each other at all, no other problems occured. So I have them both running, though usually I close AVG to free some ram. But I have them both and they are capable of running at the same time and scanning at the same time. Atleast on my computer they are.
