Specific Question for Porn Blocking for Advanced User

just tell him to stop. i had an addiction, im not proud of it by any means. but the easiest way is to go a couple days without porn for a while, then 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, so on and so fourth. it does work. socially i've made a 180 degree turn, i used to be that kid that sat in the corner and didn't talk to anybody, now i'm out and about talking to real people. breaking the addiction was a great feeling.

Just go in, pick up the computer, and stick it on the corner for a day or 3 if he doesnt stop. Sounds like he has some problems.

Actually, he has not had internet in the house for about a year. He was looking to get it back, and has good intentions, but does not completely trust himself. His therapist suggests this as a first line defense (by no means as the end-all, be-all method of stopping), and I've taken it on because I'm a tech nerd who's interested in various computer issues. I've started looking into various HD security progs, but if anyone knows about restricting HD partitions, that would be great. TY.

He'd hopefully have the will power to not delve into something that'd take that much time to do.
If his therapist has really been helping him, he wouldn't go that far I would hope.

well, if he is truly self motivated then he will install a parental control and then not go beyond that, because after all he is self motivated, right?

He could also make HD boot first, so a) boot time is less, and b) he can't run a live cd/install linux.

He is self medicating himself from a porn addiction?

Why don't you buy him a hooker or something. Lol

You're trying to block all porn? You sir have been given one of the most difficult computing tasks of all time.

Blocking porn is pretty futile. You need to work at the source: The individual with the addiction.

You Could use a Wireless router, hide it somehwere in his house and use that to block the Porn websites (And Keywords),And then disable the onboard LAN (Or Remove LAN Card). Then use a Wifi card to connect to it.

Then put a lock on the BIOS so he cant re-enable the LAN.

Thanks all for the replies, I'm going with setting a BIOS pw and locking the case. Even though it's not perfect, it should be a suitable impediment.
