I installed xp a while back and there was no sound. I found the drivers for it and installed it. It worked. Today I reinstalled xp and i did the same steps and used the same file as before and there isn't any sound. the mother board has on board sound. The mother board is: MSI SiS645. I think the sound card is SigmaTel. The driver I used before was the AC97. It isn't working anymore and it is very frustrating. If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

did you update the bios? you may have updated it to the wrong model and it disabled it, or you may have disabled it manually

The problem you have is that you now have two sound devices.
Go in your BIOS and disable your sound card on your mobo; everything should get back like before, sound will be directed to your Sigma card instead of your mobo sound card.
