Default sound issue dell xps 720

Hi everyone I hope someone can be of help to me here, I was watching an internet video on my computer and the sound went, so first I restored to an earlier time last week in fact when it was definitely working then I tried reloading drivers and was quite surprised when I was told no drivers exist for my computer by logitech the speaker makers so then I went to another program which did a beep test and they beeped so now I am getting out of my depth !!! the computer is a Dell XPS 720 desktop and running 8gb RAM, Q6600 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX, MULTIMEDIA, Creative SB X-Fi, Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC, and Logitech X120 speakers. I am running windows 7 ultimate 64bit, any help greatly appreciated as I have no idea if this is a hardware or software problem and the fact that it did the beep test confused me even more, many thanks in advance Chris PS please explain in layman's terms as I am no expert by any meaning of the word Chris
