sound is gone, i need help

Well I dont know where to put this so sorry if this is the wrong place. heres the error message i get


Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.
Error Code: 88780078

Please help.........

What have you been doing on the computer before this started? Is it a clean install? Have you checked in device manager for problems?

Do you have a sound card or is it onboard sound, post your specs, that might help us a little.

Make sure all of your drivers are installed.

I googled the error code and saw a thread somewhere where they suggested this download, MS installer cleanup utility, and said to uninstall and reinstall the drivers...

the guy said he'd try it and that was the last post in the thread, so hopefully it fixed it...
