Default sound card

my friend writes music and he records it himself. we were both wondering on how to improve the quality of the music. would we go about that by upgrading to a better mic or would a better sound card be the better option? (this is not professional by any means, but we do want better quality if possible)

Default Re: sound card

Both, better sound card and a better mic. I also record music. Upgrading to a sound card meant for recording will make a very large difference

Here's a link to a great sound card for recording http://www.adorama.com/AUMAD66.html?...26441711739114 (Check around for better prices) Hope this helps you
