Lightbulb Sony Vegas?

Has anyone used Sony Vegas?

Im going into tertiary education next year (for media production diploma) and want to give myself a headstart. So is vegas any good as far as mid-high end nle's go?

I asked people a similar question in another forum I belong to:

Blue-Room

They said that it's painfully slow.

My bro and I have just got our dad to buy Adobe Premiere 1.5 - much nicer

as a NLE, vegas is very tempting, especially because of its price
