sony vaio pcg-7d2l hd upgrade

hey, my brother has a sony viao laptop model number pcg-7d2l and it only has a 50 gig hd. im trying to figure out what size and form of a hd i can put into it to give him a performance and size boost. any ideas?

There is some pretty big hdd's out there. but we need to know if it is IDE or s-ata

that is the thing im not sure....it is an older laptop but i could not find info on it

Here's how I upgraded my laptop hard drive. Go into System Information in Windows XP and look under Hardware Resource/Components/Storage/Disks. What I did was look under Model: You'll see whatever brand it is. Just copy that and paste into google to look up the specs for it. With a little bit of research, you'll come across what type of interface your hard drive uses. Mine happen to use the SATAII 3gbps. Most likely, it's the 2.5" form factor hard drives though because all mobile hard drives are that size.
