Is Someone Spying on Me?

At the huge organization I work for, analysts/accountants like me recently received new Dell laptops. These laptops have DVD drives and pre-loaded software to play DVDs. Recently, I watched a few DVDs that, though I am not ashamed of, I would not want my employer knowing about.

My question is this: is it possible or probable that my employer has installed some sort of software that can record the name or other data about the DVDs I watch on this laptop?

In my more paranoid states I am thinking that it's all a set up. Give the employees these great new DVD capable laptops, let them keep them for a while, and then take them back and download the record of the DVDs they have watched and the time of day they watched them. If they were inappropriate DVDs watched during work hours, then nail them!

Note, since watching these DVDs, I have not connected the laptop into the company's net. I know that there are people out there in our organization whose job it is to monitor our internet use and, of course they can easily do this since we are on a company network and a T1 line. Because of this, I have a separate, wireless notebook computer I use for all personal internet use (when at work).

It's possible yes, and there is no way to get around it. If your using their equipment, they can monitor anything and everything they want to.

learn not to watch porn on work computers in future :)
they can indeed monitor you. i doubt they will do anything if you wernt on the network at the time, besides it wasnt illegal so its ok

Cele: yes, I was pretty much aware that they can do anything they want to do and that there is no such thing as privacy where I work. What I really want to know, is how can I scan my laptop computer for such spy software or other things that would track and identify my DVD use.

well first of all it's not your computer, it's the companys. And trust me, if they have some kind of monitoring software they are not going to like it if you delete it.

Then there is the problem of you only having a limited accont. (most likely) I doubt that it will let you install anything on the pc. If it does you could always try some anti-spyware programs like spybot s&d. Also hijack this might be usefull.

But like I said, if there is a monitoring program I wouldn't touch it.

"lmmfao" = laughing my motherf****** ass off

If there is a monitoring program installed, programs such as HijackThis and even PC Wizard will tell you what programs are loaded on that lappy. As stated earlier, it would be unwise to uninstall anything that you find.
