4uj6bc.exe what is this it keeps requesting access to the internet and i deny it threw zonealarm and then it starts a program in the processes tab of the task manager....what is this and is it harmful or what....tried google and found nothing... dont see any harm done but it uses memory on the computer and takes up about 8,000 k

Hey,

Seems to me it could be something like a trogan, because since it is trying to access the Internet, it could be capable of letting someone on your PC. Like a backdoor trogan...

Have you got Spyware detectors, and a Antivirus detector which might get rid of it?

Spybot Search and Destroy (spyware):

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

AVG AntiVirus:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

So just run a scan with both of these programs after updating them, and they are both free.

I hope this helps :)

Yeah, if none of the programs above see it, or your own sources of protection, then it won't be anything dangerous (unless its new, but don't worry) so then just stop it from loading up.

Go to Start, Run, and type msconfig

Go to the startup tab. Is it listed there? If so take the tick of it.

If its a program you need, you can always re-enable it this way.

If its in the Control Panel under Add/Remove programs, this would be another way of getting rid of it if its not listed in there, since it must be coming on from somewhere :p

I hope this helps :)

hey i downloaded those things and it appears to only start when i open internet explorer...i checked startup tab and it wasnt there any more suggestions???

Yeah, it might be a browser object, so could be spyware. Does SpyBot, the spyware detector notice anything? If so, clear it.

Since you are using ZoneAlarm though, you can program it to stop it asking you, so it always dissallows it.

Open it up, and go to the Program Control tab on the side. Then at the top, select the Programs tab.

Find the exe file which is asking for permission on the list and simply click on each of the 4, Access: Trusted, Internet, and Server: Trusted, Internet and select a Cross for each.

It should then stop bothering you if its nothing bad, and will be blocking it anyway :D

I hope this helps :)

denying doesnt stop it from starting though...i deny it eachtime but them i have to ctrl alt delete to stop the .exe

no, denying it access to the internet will only deny it access to the internet,

zone alarm has no control over the actual processes on your computer...

Simply blocking the process from accessing the internet like you are doing will help to limit the damage of the problem (i.e it could be sending passwords and credit card information to a central server). but it will not actually fix the problem.

use a virus scanner (www.grisift.com)
a spyware scanner (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)
and a hijack detection tool (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) -use Hijack this...

once you've run the virus scanner, this should tell you if the file is detected as a virus, (perhaps it is a worm)...

Spybot search and destroy should then be run, this will tell you if it is a (known) trojan or keylogger...

then run Hijack this, it will tell you about the process and how it starts up. and also tell you if you have any other spyware related stuff on your system such as browser bars or EXE files that start up automatically.
